Security of the ZigBee standard and IEEE 802.15.4-2006 low data rate WPAN utilizes the NIST standard AES in CCM* mode. The original CCM mode combines the counter mode of encryption with the CBC-MAC mode of authentication and uses 128-bit key AES. The CCM* mode allows the flexibility of authentication-only, encryption-only, or a combination of both. CCM* also utilizes variable length authentication tags. The JetCCM-4 core is optimized for 802.15.4 applications by supporting the various AES modes. The core includes our ultra-compact fully verified JetAES cryptographic core and supports encryption, decryption, authentication, and verification functionalities. Its design is fully synchronous for portability. The core is available for licensing in both source and netlist form.
