The GSM Adaptive Multi-Rate Narrow Band (AMR or AMR NB) speech codec is used in the GSM and UMTS mobile telephony systems. It was adopted as a standard speech codec by the 3GPP organization. The format is often used to record speech audio or ringtones also.
