Don't Get Critical IP from a 'Supermarket'

By Stéphane Hauradou,
Co-founder and CTO,
PLDA
You are on a tight schedule for your next chip. Not wanting to reinvent the wheel, you plan to go to an outside vendor for some of your silicon IP. So now you face the decision do I get my IP from a large supplier who offers many cores covering a broad range of functionality (the supermarket) or do I go to a focused vendor who specializes in the critical piece of IP I need (the specialty shop)? Well, it depends on the IP. more >>

Under the name "C3IP" Cologne Chip offers IP Cores for ASIC projects: Available are Voice CODECs (ADC/DAC) and PLLs. These IP Cores are based on Cologne Chip's unique DIGICC Technology: Analog functionality is implemented as pure digital macros using standard cell libraries only. C3IP can be used in any process technology - independent from chip geometry. Advantages are e.g. significant savings in silicon space and avoiding the risks of analog chip design. more >>
