REUSE 2017 Tackles Semi IP Theft and Open Hardware
Keynote will highlight IP theft and prevention while afternoon panel wrestles with semi open source hardware reuse and IP.
By John Blyler, Editorial Director, JB Systems
The continued growth of semiconductor intellectual property (IP) is critical for the health of the EDA chip development and tools markets. This point was emphasized by Laurie Balch, Chief Analyst at GSEDA, during this year’s Design Automation Conference (see, “EDA in the Age of the System”). Their research predicted that IP sales will continue to add 3% to 4% growth yearly to EDA business through 2020
Despite its importance and business growth, there is no industry event dedicated solely to semiconductor IP in the US – until now.
This year represents the second for an event dedicated to the semiconductor hardware and software IP reuse market. It will enable IP practitioners to exchange ideas and network while providing buyers with access to a diverse group of suppliers. REUSE 2017 is taking place for one day only on December 14, 2016 at the Santa Clara Convention Center, Santa Clara, CA.
Ted Miracco, CEO of SmartFlow Compliance Solutions, will deliver the keynote for REUSE 2017. His talk will examine the problem of high tech IP theft and how companies can protect themselves. Warren Savage, the event’s co-founder and General Manager at Silvaco, will continue this theme of securing IP during his presentation on reducing automotive ISO26262 certification costs with IP fingerprinting.
The afternoon panel – moderated by yours truly – will deal with the controversial issues of how the semiconductor and IP industry should deal with open innovation designs, especially with hardware reuse. The panelist will include a mix of suppliers, manufacturers and users.
The show offers a variety of technical and business presentations throughout the day on the state of IP reuse. The exhibition floor offers a diversity of 30+ suppliers promoting their products in a balanced showcase, i.e., no one vendor will dominate the floor.
Be sure to register for the event. I look forward to seeing you there!
