Snapshots from Semicon West 2013
Leaders from global R&D centers, professional organizations, and leading semiconductor companies share their thoughts on the direction of critical issues.
Semiconductor West 2013 has just ended, so I don’t yet have all the full stories or videos ready. But here’s a look at what lies ahead. – JB
- Luc Van den Hove, CEO, Imec: Innovation occurs at the boundaries of disciplines. What does that mean for new market development? IP?
- Karen Lightman, Executive Director, MEMS Industry Group; There are five MEMS sensors in Google glasses. What will the future hold? What is the relationship between MEMS and fine wine?
- Stephen Pateras, Product Marketing Director, Mentor Graphics: Three-dimensional structures like finfets are a hot topic. But how do you know if they’re any good? Do you test them with tiny inspectors in hard hats?
- Paul Boudre, COO, Soitec: As Moore’s Law face challenges, new options have appear. SOI offers benefits that are sustainable in both RF, digital and supply capacities.
- Personal note: As the EDA tools and IP industry becomes more integrated with semiconductor manufacturing market, so too in publishing with Chip Design’s acquisition of the Solid State Technology property. And I got promoted to bartender at our acquisition party (see the guy in the background).
